People often ask me why I love Nantucket so much, and the best way I can describe it is that it offers an unforgettable island vacation with a unique vibe like no other! From charming wood-shingled houses adorned with hydrangeas to breathtaking sunsets and coastal views dotted with sailboats, you’re surrounded by beauty at every turn.
Another thing I adore about Nantucket is how incredibly relaxing it is. Your days are spent lounging on the beach with a good book, cycling around the island, or shopping in town, while your evenings are enjoyed at fantastic restaurants or sipping champagne while watching the sunset at Steps Beach. Planning Your Nantucket Vacation
When to Visit Nantucket Island
The best time to visit Nantucket Island is from May to October, with peak season being June to September. The best beach weather is July through early August. If you’re looking for a more relaxed atmosphere, consider visiting during the shoulder season (April to May or September to October), but note it will be on the cooler side during this time. Keep in mind that Nantucket is a popular destination, so it’s essential to plan ahead and book your accommodations and activities early.
Getting to Nantucket
Nantucket is accessible by plane or ferry from Hyannis, Massachusetts. Cape Cod serves as a common starting point for travelers heading to Nantucket. You can fly into Nantucket Memorial Airport (ACK) or take the Steamship Authority or Hy-Line Cruises ferry from Hyannis, arriving at the ferry dock in time for departure.
Walk On vs. Drive On Ferry
When taking the ferry to Nantucket, you have two options: the drive-on ferry, which allows you to bring your car with you, or the high-speed walk-on ferry, where you park your car and travel on foot.
I recommend the walk-on high-speed ferry, as you generally don't need a car when visiting Nantucket, especially if you're staying in town most destinations are within walking distance. Many visitors find it convenient to rent bikes for getting around the island, including trips to the beach and other attractions.
If you do need to bring your car, keep in mind that space on the drive-on ferries is limited and they tend to book up well in advance. To secure a spot, set a reminder for the reservation opening date.

On the other hand, 21 Broad is a charming and cozy hotel with an amazing location and a very comfortable stay.

Rent bikes at the Nantucket Bike Shop and explore the island’s scenic bike trails. With over forty percent of Nantucket Island designated as preserved land, taking a bike ride is the ideal way to experience the natural beauty of the island.

A must-visit on Nantucket is the Juice Bar, famous for its homemade ice cream. They always feature a tempting flavor of the day. Don’t be deterred by the long line—it moves swiftly and the delicious sweet scoops are absolutely worth the wait!
Visit the Cisco Brewers, which is a popular spot for craft beer and live music. There are several food vendors which offer a variety of food such as raw oysters, pizza, and lobster rolls. Cisco is fun for the whole family, so bring the kids, bring the dog and enjoy a fun afternoon hanging out at Cisco Brewers.

Nantucket Town is filled with charming shops, galleries, and restaurants. A must-visit spot for my kids is Town Pool. This store offers Nantucket souvenir apparel, but the real fun lies in its scavenger hunt and secret candy room. Every child who visits can participate in a scavenger hunt to find the daily word. After completing the hunt, they get to enter a hidden door that leads to a candy room where they can pick out a piece of candy!
